Article 195
ELI5— what this means for you
These persons are OBLIGED to support each other (in this order of priority): (1) spouses; (2) legitimate ascendants and descendants; (3) parents and their legitimate children and the legitimate children of the latter; (4) parents and their illegitimate children and the legitimate and illegitimate children of the latter; (5) legitimate brothers and sisters whether of full or half blood.
Key point
Support order: spouse first, then parents/children, then siblings. Knowing this order is critical when multiple people could be claimed for support.
